Stripwound Metal Hose

Stripwound flexible metal hoses are produced by roll forming a profile into a metal strip and helically winding the strip over a mandrel.

The edges of each successive turn of the strip are locked together to form a hose that flexes by the sliding action within the two profiled locksections.

Some stripwound hoses are fed a packing material into the profiled locksection to provide the hose with pressure capability.

The following are the common supply but other special application products can be supplied.

Polylock - Polygonal Bore

Hose made by helically winding a pre-formed metal strip into a fully interlocked profile. The hose gets its flexibility and suppleness from the sliding of metal components within the interlock section. A series of flats are built into the hose wall to give the hose anti-torsion properties.

Polylock will not unwind when cut, so eliminating the need to tack weld the hose before cutting to length.

Ideal hose for conveyance of exhaust gas from vehicle engines, and for light duty materials handling applications.

SPI - Interlocked

Hose made by helically winding a pre-formed metal strip into a fully interlocked profile. The hose gets its flexibility and suppleness from the sliding of metal components within the interlock section.

The ideal hose for conveyance of truck exhaust gas and all applications requiring a very strong and flexible hose. Very efficient mechanical protection (armouring against impact, crushing, hot metal splash) of rubber hoses, electrical cables and heat insulation of technical hoses. In the smaller diameters, excellent mechanical protection of electric wires and cables, telephone hand set cables, security roller doors, thermocouplers, instrument wires and parachute rip cord housings. Also ideal as a lining for other hoses in abrasive media applications.

SL - Smooth Bore

For applications involving large volume transfer of dry bulk materials, the initially higher cost of interlocked hose with an integral strip liner is far outweighed by the advantages it offers over those of other hoses, whether these be of metal, rubber or like materials. The high flow rates for lined interlocked hoses are well known resulting in reduced vehicle turnaround times.

Additional advantages are reduced air losses from its tighter construction, elimination of materials degradation and contamination experienced with other hoses, plus a longer service life due to greater abrasion resistance. Ideal for hard to fluidise materials in industrial plants, ships, barges, silos, elevators, trucks and rail units. Uses include pneumatic transfer of bulk materials in powder, pellet, granules, flake or pebble form such as chemicals, feed, flour, grain, plastics, sugar, cement, pebble, lime and sintered iron ore.

HPI - Pressure Tight

Pressure-tight technical hose made by helically winding a pre-formed metal strip into a fully interlocked hose and inserting into the lock section a high temperature composite packing for fluid tightness.

Conveyance of corrosive fluids, bitumen, oxygen, steam, abrasive and pulverised products. HPI is a strong robust hose.
